About Us

RARE, the Romance Author&Reader Event, initiated in 2014, is a global event to bring together renowned romance authors and their fans.

RARE – achronym for Romance Author&Reader Event – was formed in 2014 out of our love for all things romance and books. Since 2014 RARE has brought Bestselling authors together with more than 15000+ readers from around the world. Though our events are marketed to local readers, RARE has a loyal International following who travel to our events. Our goal: to cultivate relationships between authors and readers by creating a culture of belonging and acceptance.

Attendees are referred to as RAREttes /RAREdudes and are passionate about each event which makes for a fun filled exciting weekend. As long as there’s a demand for signings RARE will be there!

RARE has hosted successful events in Edinburgh (2014, 2016, 2022, 2024), Montreal (2015), Berlin (2017), London (2018 – 2019 & 2023), Rome (2018-2019), Paris (2019, 2022, 2024), Florence (2023), Melbourne, Australia (2023 & 2025). Our events tend to be big and we estimate 1200 – 1800 attendees.

Authors from all sub genres of Romance are invited whether independently or traditionally published. Regardless of the amount of romance – if it’s hinted at, push/pull, full of angst, fantasy, etc. RARE has gained many followers over the years and in order to meet their reading needs we continue to search and include as many different authors, subgenres, and locations as possible.

How does RARE differ from a publisher sponsored event/ book fair?
RARE is funded by authors, readers, and in some markets occasionally sponsors/publishers. This means each author pays a table fee spreading the expenses between attendees and authors.  We strive to keep ticket prices as low as possible, attendees pay for one ticket which gives them all day access to meet all authors, get books signed, and take pictures. A bookseller will be in attendance selling traditionally published titles.  Our events are for readers and authors though some publishers will be in attendance selling books and or supporting attending authors.
